Year 2 Assessment Feedback

I just got the feedback for the ENO group project.

I feel terribly sad and annoyed when I saw one of the comments saying that my performance at blogging was terrible. First of all, my “life” isn’t defined by writing blogs… I don’t have leisure time to visit exhibitions once a week. I work so hard try not to make myself regards quitting my job in HK and spending all my savings to come to UK. I would never judge people based on my own imagination.

Why would I write a blog on this terribly designed website when I didn’t even have time to talk to my family and lovely grandma.

I worked so hard for the project (as everyone did) and I believe that the outcomes have shown how much effort I put.

I used to blog on this kind of old-fashioned website 10 years ago during my high school life. (A website called Xanga which has been shut down due to the raise of social media.)

Anyway, I will still do my best to write blog here just to meet the course requirement. But I would like to recommend using a more up-to-dated platform that having a better user interface, for example tumblr, instagram, or even building our own Facebook page. I believe those would really help us reaching and promoting our works to the world. (Which I believe most of the class have been working to build their own branding.)

I have started doing the research for my final project.
I would really like to do something that relate to my hometown Hong Kong.

I will share more research on the next post. 🙂

Graduation Film Research

I have been wanting to create something that records my city’s situation and shows it’s distinctive identity.

After an amount of readings, I am particularly interested in the following topics,

Housing problems

Hong Kong has been the top 10 of the global competitiveness ranking for years but the living standard of our citizen has been declining. Everyone works so hard for a living but barely gets an equal return. The government never put local citizen on the first priority.

Heritage/ Cultural conservation

During the progress of researches, I realised how am I lack of knowledge and not knowing the city. I don’t what to create something that is based on imagination and not supported by facts.

I needed to keep reading and doing more researches if I really wanted to do the above topics. Then I paused the readings and took a deep breathe. I looked for something that I have been knowing since I was born. It is Cantonese. Someone defines it as a dialect but I see it as a language. It has completely different meanings and pronunciation to Mandarin. Even the grammar is different.

Doing more researches, I realised the importance of protecting a language as it affects and contains the culture of an ethnic. What the Chinese government has been doing is to replace Cantonese with Mandarin. Scholars have proven the historical significance of Cantonese which has been used in well-known poems and poetries, is much older then Mandarin. The Chinese government has been degrading as a non-civilised dialect.

I want to create a film that shows how humorous and flexible Cantonese is.
